Turnitin Plagiarism Detection Service

The Hellenic Mediterranean University, in the context of upgrading its services to undergraduate and postgraduate students, has access to the Turnitin plagiarism detection service.
This service is used in more than 15,000 educational institutions worldwide, by 30 million students. It is a necessary tool for teachers and students as it provides the ability to control the authenticity and originality of their work.

Material
It is rich in foreign language material with 60+ billion pages, 600+ million student works and 154+ million articles in magazines, books, etc. It also contains Greek language material which is enriched intensively.

A suggested way to use
The use of the subscription service is made by the Teachers and the Academic staff of HMU, in order to control the phenomenon of plagiarism in his postgraduate and graduate theses.
Creating an account is essential for your entry into the service. The license refers to OriginalityCheck. And helps the instructor check the students’ work for plagiarism.
The material for which the plagiarism will be detected is primarily the postgraduate work of HMU students and thesis, always in accordance with the license of the system and the proposed way of using HMU.
During the audit, the original text form is preserved and the text found in other sources, and the percentage of plagiarism are displayed in color.

How does it work
Teachers create an access account (e-mail + password) after contacting the administrator.
Then they create a Class with the name of the course “Class name” and an “Enrollment password” necessary elements to upload the tasks to be controlled – a process that can be done either by themselves or the students.
Once the Course has been created, they can create the Add Assignment by paying special attention to the Optional Settings and especially to the settings:
α) “Allow only file types that Turnitin can check for originality”,
b) “Allow students to see Originality Report”, if the students want to have access to the result that the plagiarism control will issue, and
c) ATTENTION !! If they want ONLY to check for plagiarism and NOT WARNING at the Turnitin Repository, they choose “No repository” instead of “Standard Paper Repository”. If accidental storage is done they should contact the program manager for deletion!
The permitted file types are: Microsoft Word ™ (DOC and DOCX), Corel WordPerfect®, HTML, Adobe PostScript®, Plain text (TXT), Rich Text Format (RTF), Portable Document Format (PDF), Microsoft PowerPoint (PPT, PPTX, and PPS), Hangul (HWP) ATTENTION: The file must not exceed 50MB.

Job Submission – Originality Report
Once the Assignments have been created, students can now submit assignments. Teachers can also submit assignments by selecting “non-enroll student”.
This is followed by the publication of Similarity with the percentage of plagiarism and by clicking on it, the Originality Report opens with a detailed appearance of plagiarism sources. The final decision is made by the supervising professor. Various filters can be used and sources blocked.
In the case of resettlement, the issuance of a new Originality Report takes 24 hours.
