The mission of the Department of Electronic Engineering of the Hellenic Mediterranean University
The advances in science and technology in electronics with an emphasis on telecommunications, defense systems, automation, control systems, computers and computer science are rapid, which requires constant contact and adaptation with cutting-edge technologies.
The Department of Electronic Engineering of the Hellenic Mediterranean University integrates its educational mission in the context of a long-term effort to reform, upgrade and modernize its curriculum and the offered educational project and their harmonization, harmonization with the current reality, as it is , professional and cultural field.
It is particularly noteworthy that the Department of Electronic Engineering of the Hellenic Mediterranean University seeks to maintain (and succeeds) a prominent position in the country’s Higher Education and in international educational and research becoming, as it introduces modern curricula, updates and updates. guided by interdisciplinarity and specialization, its scientific staff, as it attracts scientists and researchers of high level and known prestige and in multiple ways which modernizes, upgrades and strengthens its infrastructure with emphasis on its laboratory educational and research equipment, constantly aiming at the production of very high quality educational and research work.
The Department of Electronic Engineering of the Hellenic Mediterranean University has the mission of providing higher education in the subjects of Electronic Engineering as well as the promotion of science and technology through basic and applied research.
Objectives of the Department
The Electronic Engineering Department’s objectives:
    1. to produce highly trained, sensitized, active and self-evolving highly qualified engineers with basic knowledge, as well as cutting-edge knowledge in electronic science and technology, capable of creatively and productively serving the country and the world.
    2. to pursue advanced research in new electronic technologies and their applications in a wide range of scientific fields to meet the requirements and needs of industry, the state, society and the scientific community,
    3. to develop educational (undergraduate and postgraduate level) and research collaborations in the framework of funded educational, scientific, research, and development programs with both educational and research institutions in the country and abroad as well as with organizations and companies in the public and private sector and other productive sectors. at the local, regional and national level, with a particular focus on the transfer of know-how and technological development,
    4. to organize, implement and develop autonomous (but also in collaboration with universities in Greece and abroad) postgraduate programs providing high-quality specialization in relevant scientific and technological leading fields,
    5. to organize, participate actively and/or co-organize international and national conferences and related activities in its subject matter,
    6. to publish his research work in scientific papers and articles in reputable scientific journals, books and other tried and tested scientific steps.
The educational mission of the Department
The Department of Electronic Engineering has set as its goals the educational mission:
    1. to provide its students with a comprehensive background of scientific and technological fundamental knowledge as well as cutting-edge knowledge, with their exposure to analysis and development techniques and thorough experimentation
    2. to offer opportunities for scientific and technological specialization in the directions it develops (telecommunications, automation and information technology),
    3. to equip its students with the skills of synthetic thinking, design, development, and problem solving of electronics, telecommunications, automation, and information technology,
    4. to cultivate in the students of the professional level communication skills, cooperation, behavior, and morality,
    5. to encourage its students to develop correct mentalities of study, information, and understanding, organization and use of time, infrastructure and skills, self-education and self-development by providing them with opportunities to participate in research and
    6. generally provide its students with the necessary supplies (knowledge, skills, abilities, etc.) for successful scientific and professional careers in competitive and constantly evolving scientific and technological fields in the national and international arena.
High-Level Studies
The Department of Electronic Engineering of the Hellenic Mediterranean University, since 1981 in the field of public higher education, since 2001 in higher education and since 2019 in university education with a 5-year study program of School of Engineering, provides modern, complete, theoretical and laboratory, general and specialized, but mainly applied knowledge in electronics, telecommunications, automation, and computer science, with:
  • 5 years (10 academic semesters)
  • 54 courses for the diploma (38 compulsories, 12 optional compulsory and 4 free choices)
  • Mandatory Diploma Thesis
  • Optional 6-month Internship for 30 additional ECTS credits
  • 300-330 Credit ECTS Units
  • 4 courses of optional compulsory courses in “A. Technologies of Telecommunications, Networks and Defense Systems”, “B. Information Management, Intelligent Systems and Automation”, “C. Electronics, Photonics and Nanotechnology”, and “D. Computer and Information Technology “

The Department of Electronic Engineering is active mainly in the context of its 4 Research Laboratories (with a total of more than 25 laboratory spaces):
  • Plasma Physics & Laser Center (CPPL)
  • Telecommunications & Electromagnetic Applications Laboratory
  • Cycle & Automation Technology Laboratory
  • Computer Technology, Informatics & Electronic Construction Laboratory
Excellent External Evaluation
The Department of Electronic Engineering of the Hellenic Mediterranean University follows procedures of internal and external evaluation, quality control, and certification of its study program.
The culmination of our efforts is the excellent external evaluation, which took place at the Department of Electronic Engineering of the TEI of Crete in July 2012 by a committee of professors/researchers appointed by the competent Quality Assurance Authority in Higher Education.

 

New Professional Engineer Rights

  • Pursuant to par. 1 of Article 66 “Schools of Engineering Universities” of Law 4610/2019, the Ministerial Decision has already been issued, which stipulates in 10 academic semesters (5 years of engineering studies) the duration of the first cycle of studies of the Department of Electronic Engineering of Elliniko University of the Mediterranean.
  • According to par. 3-5 of Article 66 “Schools of Engineering Universities” of Law 4610/2019, the decision of the Minister of Infrastructure & Transport is expected for the establishment of a Special Seven-Member Committee that submits a proposal for the correspondence of the Department of Electronic Engineering of his School of Engineering. Hellenic Mediterranean University with the Department of the Polytechnic School of the University of the country (for example with the Department of Information and Communication Systems Engineering of the Polytechnic School of the University of the Aegean).
  • Then, according to par. 2 of Article 66 “Schools of Engineering Universities” of Law 4610/2019, after the proposal of the above Committee, the joint decision of the Ministers of Infrastructure & Transport, Environment & Energy, and Education, Research & Religions is expected. which determines the correspondence of the Department of Electronic Engineering of the School of Engineering of the Hellenic Mediterranean University, for which the Ministerial Decision has already been issued which defines the duration of the first cycle of studies in 10 academic semesters, with the Department of Mechanical Engineering. of Information and Communication Systems of the Polytechnic School of the University of the Aegean, as respectively are meant two Departments that with the successful completion of their study program leading to the acquisition of corresponding knowledge, skills, and abilities to carry out corresponding activities.
  • Following the previous joint ministerial decision, the professional rights of the graduate Electronic Engineers of the Hellenic Mediterranean University will be those defined in articles 2 and 11 of Presidential Decree 99/2018 (Government Gazette 187 / t.A / 5-11-2018) “Regulation of the profession of engineer by determining the professional rights for each specialty “
  • The previous professional rights of the graduates of Electronic Engineering TE were rich and guaranteed by Presidential Decree 346 / 8-6-1989.

Postgraduate studies
The Department of Electronic Engineering of the Hellenic Mediterranean University:

  • Since 2014 (Government Gazette 2205 / τ.Β / 12-8-2014) organizes autonomously (in the framework of European postgraduate program) the Postgraduate Program “Plasma Physics & Applications (PlaPA)”, which is re-established in 2018 (Government Gazette 1973 / t.B / 1-6-2018) until today Postgraduate Program “Lasers, Plasma & Applications (LaPlA)”.
  • Since 2016 (Government Gazette 2556 / τ.Β / 19-8-2016) it organizes the autonomous Postgraduate Program “Telecommunication & Automation Systems (TeleAutoS)”, which is re-established in 2018 (Government Gazette 2068 / t.B / 7-6-2018) with the same title.
  • From 2018 (Government Gazette 1973 / t.B / 1-6-2018) participates in the joint Postgraduate Program of Postgraduate Studies “Nanotechnology for Energy Applications”.

 

Doctoral studies
Pursuant to Laws 4485/2017 (articles 38-45) and 4610/2019 (articles 23-34), the Department of Electronic Engineering of the Hellenic Mediterranean University organizes independent doctoral studies in Chania, according to the relevant decision of 5 / 18-6- 2019 Meeting of the Department and the corresponding decision of the Senate of the Foundation, according to the attached here Doctoral Studies Regulation
