Abstract

 The present thesis deals with the application of two types of electromagnetic irradiation, radio waves and microwaves on the remediation of soils.  Although they are relatively old methods for the removal of pollutants from soil, radiofrequency waves and microwaves seem to be very promising methods because of their continuous development. They demand relatively low energy consumption and are very efficient in removing volatile and semi-volatile pollutants. Both belong to the in situ thermal technologies for soil remediation and can be applied either alone or as auxiliary technologies.
